We can learn when we are able to create new memories, store them and recall them when needed. If we want to help our students to learn efficiently, we should know something about functioning of our memory.  Human memory is the center of the cognitive learning theory.

The following Learning Map represents a brief summary about memory and its functioning. Deeper understanding  of our memory will help us understand basic instructional techniques developed on cognitive learning theory.

As educators we need to be aware of memory functioning, helping us to design such learning materials, that our students can process information successfully.
